Dubai Summer Surprises
The 13th edition of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) from June 17, 2010 until August 7, 2010 promises 52 fun-filled days of activities and lots of retail therapy for residents and tourists. With discounts across more than 6000 retail outlets besides spa packages at half the price, shoppers also stand the chance to win spectacular prizes with their purchases.
This DSS 2010, there is a chance to win 14 BMW series 3 luxury sedans. Seven weekly raffle draws will be held throughout the festive promotion, with two winners driving away with a BMW each week.
The draws will be held every Thursday from June 24, except for the final draw which will take place on Saturday August 7. Shoppers will be entitled to one raffle coupon for every AED200 spent at participating retail outlets. Those shopping with MasterCard can double their chances of winning, receiving an additional raffle coupon by making purchases on their cards. Participating malls will also be hosting a plethora of shopping and entertainment extravaganzas organized by DSS 2010 for families and children, such as Kids’ Fashion Week, international cartoon show ‘Stories of SpongeBob’, Middle East Junior Chef of the Year and many more.
World of stories
A DSS 2010 signature event, World of Stories lets you and the kids re-live and experience the fantastical elements of popular stories with activities and events for all ages. Held in both English and Arabic, there are plentiful opportunities for meeting and greeting your favourite characters, photographs and more. Additional activity corners take visitors through a journey of other stories from the classics to the traditional.

Middle East Junior Chef of the Year
In recognition of the region’s upcoming culinary talent, the Middle East Junior Chef of the Year, a DSS 2010 signature event, celebrates the works of 600 and more chefs coming together in Dubai from star hotels across the GCC.
With over 22 categories and separate competitions, the jury is formed from master chefs from around the world. During the event, multinational chefs battle it out to showcase their finest preparations.

Sheila and Abaya show
The only fashion show to cater to the Sheila and Abaya market. A DSS 2010 signature event, it is a platform for local and regional designers to highlight their designs of the traditional dress. Sheila and Abaya features established and amateur designers participating from across the UAE and GCC.

Dora The Explorer
Dora, the Latina heroine is all ready to set out on another exciting musical adventure with her best friend Boots, a furry and fuzzy monkey. Set through ever changing environment, children can explore the world with Dora and learn to communicate with her friends in both English and Spanish. Dora The Explorer show is one of the highlights of DSS this year and aims to create an interactive environment for children.

Collectors Exhibition
A DSS 2010 signature event, this exhibition features the amazing wares, artefacts and record breaking collections of local, regional and international participants. From fashion to jewellery, to coins and cars. From the weird and wonderful, to the elegant and beautiful, every collectible is a unique and surprising addition to the display.

Min Bladi Al Emarat
A popular event with locals and tourists alike since its inception five years ago, this event provides a fascinating insight into the age-old UAE Bedouin, marine and mountain traditions. The unique Emarati culture and handicrafts are celebrated and displayed in this authentic presentation. A DSS 2010 signature event, it features activity corners such as a heritage oasis, hospitality tents, traditional shows, and competitions, visitors receive a rare and privileged insight into the history of Dubai and its surrounding Emirates.

Stories of 'SpongeBob’
Patchy the Pirate agrees to share his most prized treasure with the audience - his favorite stories under the sea, all about his favorite absorbent friend SpongeBob SquarePants! As Patchy regales the audience with his stories, SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidward appear, re-enacting these classic scenes.
SpongeBob Stories, an international cartoon show attracts children and families alike.

Kids Olympic Games
With energy to burn and prizes to be won, kids enjoy a fun filled series of sports activities during Kids Olympic Games, a DSS 2010 signature event. Competitive, yet friendly, this event accommodates children from ages of 9 months to 10 years. The only event in town to include babies and toddlers, there really is a race for everyone - parents included!
From baby crawling to dancing, three legged races and many more surprises in store, kids can find their own sporting niche at the best of their ability.

Kids Fashion Week
Dedicated to young fashionistas everywhere, children’s clothing is celebrated in a display of the colourful, practical and cool designs. A DSS 2010 signature event, this mini fashion week features shows, the local catwalk stars of tomorrow and global brands such as Benetton, Diesel, Moschino, Pumpkin Patch, Kenzo and many more. It is as glitzy and glam as the grown up versions.

Highlights
Ground work begins on Khams Shamat tourism project in Syria
Dubai-based MAF Properties has commenced the ground works for its first tourism project in Syria, called Khams Shamat. Located in the Yafour area on the Damascus-Beirut highway, the project will occupy a total land space of 1 million square metres and is planned to contain hotels, a town square with outdoor shopping and restaurants, commercial office space and touristic accommodations. The company will soon announce the names of the leading companies to operate the major hotels in Khams Shamat. The first phase of the project will be completed in 2014.
